Biography

Esperanza Villalobos is a Tejana journalist and biographer who came up at the Houston Chronicle covering the Tejano music scene of the late twentieth century. She writes about Latin American and U.S. Latino cultural figures with the kind of grounded archival rigour the field has long needed.

Her work spans decades of cultural history, as seen in her detailed books The Days Inn Room 158, The Havana Exile, and The Hollywood Caricature. She relies on deep archival research and oral histories to reconstruct the lives of her subjects.

She lives in San Antonio, Texas, where she spends her free time restoring vintage vinyl records and volunteering at local community archives.
